Easy Exercises for Inactive People

One of the easiest exercises for the inactive person is to go out and walk. Walking exercises the heart and lungs. Walking exercises the entire body. A walking program will help prevent or at least delay diseases such as colon cancer, heart disease, diabetes or stroke. An additional benefit is that the fitness provided by walking will assist in the ability to climb stairs or even go grocery shopping.
 
Resistance, or strength training, can be easily accomplished at home. Instead of using that electric broom, use a regular one instead. When you are lifting laundry, instead of leaning over and lifting the basket, do squat lifts using the basket as a weight. When you take meat out of the freezer to prepare dinner, use the meat as a weight to do arm curls. You can also use the can of corn from the cabinet for the same purpose. In the fall, use a rake to rake the leaves up from the lawn. Park the leaf blower; muscle power will serve you much better.

Balance exercises will help alleviate the chance of falls. To start with, place one hand against the wall and stand on one foot. Make sure that you do this with both sides of your body. As you gain your balance, you will find that you don’t need the wall to lean against. Better balance means you will be more agile.

If you are inactive, you don’t have to be. All you need to do is use a little motivation to get yourself out and do something. As you move your lifestyle from an inactive one to an active one, you may find that you want to join an organized exercise program at a local gym. Go do it.  You have the ability and you’ll feel better for it.
